The year was 1986. I was 14 years old. My red Sony Walkman had 5 albums on repeat. Still a part of my soul.

Book Sculptures by Guy Laramee

These book sculptures or “book carvings” were created by Canadan creative, Guy Laramee. After carving landscapes and structures into old books, Guy then paints them in varied colours. He explains further: “My work, in 3D as well as in painting, originates from the very idea that ultimate knowledge could very well be an erosion instead of an accumulation. Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills. Then they flatten and become fields where apparently nothing is happening.” (via Designsoak)

Pearl Jam guitarist confirms 2013 release of ‘experimental’ album

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready has said that the band will definitely be releasing a new album this year. Speaking to Rolling Stone, McCready said that the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Backspacer’ will be coming out “this year, for sure”. Of the content of the album, which will again be produced by Brendan O’Brien, McCready said inspiration was taken from Pink Floyd and punk rock, adding that the record is ‘experimental’. He said: I would say as a cliché answer it’s kind of a logical extension of what ‘Backspacer’ was. But I think there’s a little bit more experimental stuff going on. There’s a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there’s a punk rock edge to other stuff. McCready said that seven songs are ‘relatively completed’ and there are an additional 15 ‘ready to go’. “We’re excited to get it done, because we’ve kind of been waiting for about two years to do it,” he explained. In turn, The Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon recently revealed that Pearl Jam have inspired his own band’s plans for their next album. The New Jersey four-piece, who last year released their fourth album ‘Handwritten’, already have ideas for their fifth LP according to Fallon. He told Rolling Stone: “I want to do the ‘No Code’ record [Pearl Jam’s fourth album], that one. They did these three rock records, and [then] they all of a sudden went left turn. And everybody went, ‘What the hell?’ Then later, five years, they went, ‘This is amazing.'” (via NME)
