The crooked police commander Simon Weiss (Roschdy Zem), head of the division that supervises Paris’s demi-monde, starts out on his nightly tour of bars, discos and strip clubs, making sure once again that the owners don’t bend the rules too far. Along with him is the newbie recruit and Weiss appointed driver Laurence Deray (Sara Forestier). Weiss knows he’s between a rock and hard place: it’s obvious that criminal gangs run rampant in his special domain, and even more obvious that they’re protected by higher-ups in the department…

“Paris by Night” (“Une Nuit”) is a low-key, lifeless (despite its characters and night scenes) and thrill-less cop drama. There´s no real action, and it lacks the suspense I was hoping for and believed I would see. There´s no gripping narrative and instead we are served a chatty and repetitive ride-along with drawn-out dialogues that never seems to end. There´s nothing wrong with the performance from Roschdy Zem, Sara Forestier etc, but there´s simple nothing that keeps your attention and it becomes a snooze fest instead. (2 and a half out of 5)
