During the D23 Expo, which took place in Anaheim, the first poster series of Star Wars‘ eight movie “The Last Jedi” was unveiled. All dressed with red capes, we can see Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren as well as the others characters of this third trilogy. The unforgettable Luke Skywalker and Princess Leïa also have their poster. In addition, the franchise also revealed the first images of the movie in a behind-the-scenes video. Directed by Rian Johnson the movie will be released on December 15. (via Fubiz)

If, while walking down the street, flicking through a magazine or sitting on a bus recently you’ve found yourself looking at a movie poster, you’re probably in some way come into contact with the influence of Hans Hillmann. When the German graphic artist began producing film posters in 1953 at the height of the Modernist era, few realised he’d have such a profound effect on the industry, but his bold, Minimalist-inspired creations set a new standard for film advertising.

It’s an influence which probably has something to do with the calibre of films he designed for; Jean-Luc Godard, Federico Fellini, Luis Buñuel and Jean Cocteau all directed pictures which would undergo his expert treatment. Over the next 21 years Hans would design 130 posters, some personally commissioned by directors including Alain Resnais and Edgar Reitz, many of which achieved an iconic status when they were first released that still endures today.

The German designer passed away in March this year aged 88, so London’s Kemistry Gallery’s exhibition of his work, opening today, is incredibly timely as well as exciting. That these posters are as impactful now as they were in the 1950s and 60s is a tribute to the designer’s skill; I can imagine that his work will still be as modern in years to come.

George Lois (born 1931, New York) is an art director, designer, and author. While job titles make it difficult to describe the breadth of work he’s carried out over an illustrious career spanning six decades, he’s perhaps best known for the Esquire magazine covers he art directed from 1962 to 1972 and advertising campaigns for Robert Kennedy, MTV, Tommy Hilfiger, Maypo and Pontiac, among others. As the two-time winner of the Food Network’s Challenge: Outrageous Pumpkins, Ray Villafane is best known for his expert artistry in food carving. However, he’s now recognized for more after accepting to take on a sand sculpting project in Jesolo, Italy. Despite not having any experience in creating sand sculptures, Villafane challenged himself and took part in the annual holiday project. He did such an exceptional job in November 2008, that he was invited the next summer to masterfully sculpt a giant “Dante’s Inferno” on the beach. My hat is off for Ray… (via Design You Trust)

This is a conceptual packaging project for Helly Hansen Workwear I had the creative lead on during my time at the global branding company Avery Dennison. The brief was to re-design and re-brand the packaging design for Helly Hansen Workwear accessories as well. The keywords were: Scandinavian minimalism, brand colours, consistency, masculinity, clarity and simplicity. The accessories packaging design has a new and highly improved Helly Hansen Workwear approach. The overall new design creates a stronger in-store communication and the Workwear identity becomes more clear and understandable through the re-brand.
