I have now finally seen all 26 episodes of the tv series “The Green Hornet”. The series aired on the ABC US television network in the 1966–1967 TV season, starring Van Williams as the Green Hornet/Britt Reid and Bruce Lee as Kato. The single-season series premiered September 9, 1966, and ran through March 17, 1967, lasting only 26 episodes.

The plot of the series is: Playboy bachelor and media mogul Britt Reid is the owner and publisher of the Daily Sentinel newspaper, but as the masked vigilante Green Hornet, he fights crime with the assistance of his martial-artist expert Kato, Britt’s crimefighting partner, and his weapons-enhanced car, the Black Beauty (license plate V-194). On police records, the Green Hornet is a wanted criminal, but in reality, the Green Hornet is masquerading as a criminal so that he can infiltrate and battle criminal gangs, leaving them and the incriminating evidence for police arrival. Beyond Kato, Britt’s dual identity is known only to his secretary Lenore “Casey” Case and District Attorney Frank P. Scanlon. Britt’s motive for fighting crime was that his father had died in prison after having been framed for a crime he did not commit.

This is a little TV gem if you ask me with the storyline, the cool gadgets and of course The Green Hornet’s car, The Black Beauty. I think the show really finds its format from episode 10 and after that it´s a pure pleasure to watch it. All episodes are up on Youtube if you haven´t seen the TV series.

The excentric and visually innovative Michel Gondry has directed the upcoming 3D movie adaptation of the old classic radio and television character The Green Hornet. I reckon mostly known from the 1966-1967 television season when Van Williams starred as the Green Hornet/Britt Reid, and Bruce Lee as Kato. I have respect for Michel Gondry and his cinematic visions, but I personally think that Seth Rogen is completely miscasted as The Green Hornet in this upcoming adaptation. But, I reckon Rogen put himself in the lead, since he is one of the scriptwriters of the movie… Judge yourself.
